Attractions : Ayurveda originated in India long back in pre-vedic period. Njavaraizhi

Primarily the type of medication used: whether oil, powder, paste etc & The Pattern & pressure of the strokes. For e.g. in a rejuvenating massage, the oils selected shall be with properties of tissue nourishing, toning up the muscles, stimulating the nerve endings & the pattern of strokes will be in the direction of hair follicles & from the origin of muscles to the insertion. Where as in a therapeutic powder massage, the purpose is to cleanse & burn out the excess adipose fat & hence the storks will be in the opposite direction of hair follicles. Having identified the body constitution (Prakruti) & type of ailment (Vikruti), a suitable type of massage can be carried out from the following. |

Njavarakizhi
A massage to the body with small cotton cloth boluses filled with cooked Njavara rice after a liberal application of medicated oil over the whole body. The rice is cooked in cow's milk & herbal decoction. The boluses are dipped in the same mixture of cow's milk & herbal decoction & applied all over the body to induce sudation (sweat). This procedure is highly rejuvenating, nourishing & prepares the individual to bear the stresses & strains of a busy lifestyle. Elakizhi (Pathrapotala Swede)

Herbal Steam Bath

Takra means buttermilk & Dhara means pouring. The main seat of the Vata dosha is Pakwashaya (large intestine); therefore Vasti, the medicated oil enema, is the main therapy for all Vata disorders such as constipation, neurological ailments, paralysis, flatulence, lower backache, gout & rheumatism. The results nourish & rebuild the Dhatus (body tissues), strengthen their activities, restore & strengthen the body's immunity. This is very nutritive while removing accumulated Malas (toxins) from the colon.

Snehapanam can be used as a curative method & nourishing treatment also through rearranging the dosage & timing.
